I love Altras. They are my favorite shoe of shoes because I love the wide toe box and zero drop. I have many many of the first model, the Altra Instinct. I love them. I ordered the new revision Instinct 1.5 and am very disappointed. Mine were much tighter in the toe box and mid foot. I felt very restricted. I visually could see the difference in the width. I re-read the Altra write ups on this newer 1.5 Instinct and did not find any info that said that they run narrower in the toe box. So if you are an Altra lover who already loves the Instinct, just be on notice that the 1.5 model may not be as comfortable as what you have and make sure that you can return them without too much shipping offset.... Just my .02 of course. I gave it a three star as an OK shoe but it is not for me. Still love you guys at Altra and am sure that you will continue to provides lots of excellent shoes down the road.

I bought the Altra Men's Instinct 1.5 running shoe after reading considerable reviews and information. I normally wear a size 9 shoe, but thought the 9.5 size would fit. After receiving the shoes I anxiously tried them on and was dismayed to find they were just too small. My toes were right at the end of the shoe. I really like the design and construction of the shoe. I took a chance ordering shoes online as I've always purchased shoes before only after I try the fit at shoe stores. I am going to try to find some of these shoes in size 10 as the zero drop and wide toe design is exactly what I want. The shoes would have been a solid 5 rating had I not needed to return them.

Great Shoe.

Had been looking for a shoe like this (zero drop but with cushion and a wide front). Got them and started to run in them, nice but not as great as I thought it would be.

Worse part was, with just 80km of running on them, the outer part of the shoe upper is already starting to tear off. So thats quite a disappointment.

Needed a more cushioned alternative than what I have been running in vibram 5 fingers & merrill minimalist version of same.

The altras have seemed to help with cushioning, as I have experienced less in the way of shin splints. However I began to notice the shoes breaking down after only about 30 miles. Specifically, the net/mesh material that covers most of the shoe is tearing. I can't say yet if this is comprising the structural integrity.

I am only at mile 59 now in the shoe, so I seriously doubt I will get my money's worth.

I have been running in a more traditional running shoe for some time now. The usual shoeI was using was altered by the company and just not good. This was a great opportunity to try something new. These are just awesome! The wide toe box is great. If you run with a good midfoot landinging, this gives support closer to a traditional shoe, while allowing for that good landing. I bought these and the Torins, both are awesome. The Torin has more cushioning, but both perform very well. It's only been a few weeks, but so far, I love them!
