I run about 5 times a week (35-40 miles total), and I rotate running shoes to give them more time to recover. For my shorter, faster runs, I wear Saucony Progrid Kinvaras, and for my longer, slower runs, I had been wearing Nike Air Pegasus 28s. However, I burned through two pairs of those, and I had a third pair but I gave them to my dad. Unfortunately, the 28s went out of production, and for the Pegasus 29s, Nike apparently did a drastic redesign, which many 28 lovers have given thumbs down. Well, my local running store didn't have 29s in my size anyway, so I didn't test them out. I did test the Brooks Glycerin 11, as well as the Nike Lunar Glide and a pair of ASICs (I can't remember the exact model).

I fell in love with the Glycerin almost immediately. It's soft all around, so there are no places where it irritates my foot (top, side, or bottom). It's not a flat shoe (i.e., the heel has more cushioning than the forefoot), so obviously if you are into serious forefoot strike, you probably won't like this shoe. I tend to midfoot strike on long slow runs, and I feel like this shoe really babies my feet. The toebox is roomy without being so large as to encourage blisters.

In terms of color, the blue is pretty bright, but it probably makes for a good safety feature. The back of the shoe does contain a reflective patch as well.

I'm used to having to buy insoles to make a shoe feel great, but this one is soft each step and fits perfect right out of the box. It feels like running on a very firm tempurpedic mattress.

I'm not a big runner, but I got these because I'm training for my first full marathon and friend highly recommended these shoes. They are great and feel very comfortable for the runs I'm doing (about 10-27 miles a week). Only thing is that it's been almost two month (got these around August 14th), and the rubber on the heals are already worn out on both shoes. There is very little to no threading at the heel of the outsole on either shoe. The rest of the outsole is fine, insoles are still comfortable, and the upper portion still looks new. I like these enough to get another pair, but concerned that the outsoles may wear out quickly again. If it wasn't for that I'd give these shoes a 5 out of 5.

UPDATE 10/10/2013 So I submitted a defect form to Brooks Sports outlining the issue, and I must say their Customer Support is great. 30 minutes after submitting the complaint, I get following response:

"We have reviewed your case and determined that it does look like you have some premature wear on the shoes. It does look like you may be a heavy heel striker which may contribute to the faster wear rate on the shoe. We went ahead and placed a new order for you today. We do not know what the cause of the issue could be so if nothing changes in your running style you could expect to see this wear again. "

Which is awesome. They are going to provide me with a new pair, and informed me of what type of runner I may be. Being a first time runner, I really appreciated the advice and the warning that the new shoes may result in the same issue (but just not as quickly as the current pair). New shoes were shipped out the same day (10/8, and I should have them in 7 days). Because of the quick action and response, I'm giving them a 4 out of 5. I'll update a month and half from now on if the wear is still the same (and if I remember).

the beginning. After owning Mizuno Peophecy for over a year, going back trying Brooks feels like.. I tasted 8, so would I settle for 4? probably not

Too much grond feel, no firmness at all. No cushion, I understand ppl like the soft feeling but for RUNNING you need cushion and some amount of firmness.
