Long ago, when Asics introduced the Gel-Lyte, I used them exclusively for training and competitive events ranging from 5K's to marathons. They fit well and offered a nice balance between cushioning and weight. When Asics discontinued the model, I was distraught...so much so that I went to an outlet store and bought every pair they had in my size. I eventually wore all of them out, and I have struggled ever since to find a brand and model I liked as much. So with this reintroduction of my dearly-loved shoe, I did not hesitate to log into Amazon and order a pair. Although my distances are currently at six miles or less (recovering from recent knee surgery), I can shout with joy because my beloved Gel-Lytes have come back home, and I am confident they will once again serve me well as I step up my mileage! I love the design and the fit, weight and cushioning, and all are oh-so-similar to the Gel-Lytes of yore. Asics, please, please, please keep this shoe in production for a long time to come. If not, I guess I'll be returning to the outlet store!

The first pair of Lyte 33's I purchased (which were actually given to me by our Asics rep) felt amazing the first time I put them on. I wore them for 5-10 shorter runs averaging 5-10 miles per run. I was impressed. I hadn't worn an Asics in a solid 2 years. I continued to wear them, logging a few long runs in the 20+ mile range. Once I got to about mile 100-150 the shoes were completely broken down; the forefoot cushioning just wasn't responsive and the collar of the shoe decided to dig into the medial side of my right ankle. I decided to chalk it up as a defective shoe and had Asics shoot me another pair. This time, out of the box their were fit issues.

Fast forward to 2013 and I hesitantly tried on the Lyte 33 version 2. The fit felt even more dialed in and the cushioning felt phenomenal. Again, I wore them for a few shorter runs and really liked the way that they felt. I just logged an 18 mile run in them (7/31/13) and when I got home it felt as if my left and right forefoot (forefeet?) were bruised and battered. I've been in Saucony Kinvaras for the past 3 years and have never had that issue; even in 50k-50 mile races. In fact, I still log some miles in my original Kinvara 2's with no foot pain.

I believe that the Gel Lyte 33v2 is probably a better shoe than a Reebok Zig Tech and definitely better than the Sketchers Shape-ups. Outside of those two shoes though, I'm not sure.

Experience: I've worked running retail for 6 years. Running 50-60 mpw. I've been wearing minimalist shoes since before they were cool.

Very light, with decent stability. Using it for running in sandy area. I am usually an ASICS 9 1/2" but the first one was too tight. So, now I am running on an US 10 and it works great. RUNS 1/2" TOO SMALL. ADD 1/2 SIZE TO YOUR NORMAL SHOE SIZE.

So fab, passer by either stumble or burst into tears. Should come with a warning to prevent the non-wearer from minor neck injury.

Chose the Green and Grey, found aethetic achievement to be in line with the athletic achievement. So light, your lap times benefit.

I suggest track wear so spectators are sitting down.

Great shoe. Extremely light with plenty of support and an extremely comfortable fit. Probably won't buy any other brand after this.
