I will say right up front I am not a fan of minimalist shoes, at least for myself. People with a proper gait may benefit from them, but for those of us who aren't in that category (like me, an overpronator) they can lead to some real problems. However, I was curious to try a gym shoe with a little less built-in support to see how they'd feel and how they'd work with my orthotic. These seemed like a good compromise between a more minimalistic shoe and a traditional neutral runner, so I bought a pair and tried them on in the house.I liked the lightweight feel of these, and was surprised that they did actually have a decent amount of cushion. However, the support was definitely lacking. Even with my orthotic I found my feet tipping inwards. They also seemed very narrow, especially around the midfoot area. My feet began to ache shortly after putting them on and I had to return them.
I don't think this is a bad shoe by any means, but it's important to realize that it's not made for everyone. If you are a lightweight person with a completely neutral gait and a good midfoot strike, you might really like these. Otherwise I recommend looking elsewhere.
