It comes in a couple pieces that just snap together, no tools needed.
Has a very stable base, I constantly put steel toed work boots on it with no wobble.
As has been stated it is a simple plug-in design, with no moving parts. I use a light timer, in the winter, to cycle it on and off depending on my shift work schedule.
The bottom is open.
When I don't need the heat, just some air flow to dry my work boots out, I simply place the dryer over a floor vent. I usually have the fan of my air conditioning/heating system running anyway and this allows air to be blown through the dryer.
With the dryer plugged in it draws 36 watts.

I've used one of these for three years now with excellent results for hiking boots, Nordic ski boots, athletic shoes and rubber/leather pacs. Although the heat level is very modest and therefore protects your footwear and keeps the electric bill low it will thoroughly dry all but the very soggiest boots in a few hours. Also, it seems to eliminate any foul odors (who me?) in athletic or street shoes. Here's a hot tip: put your already-dry winter boots on this Peet dryer before venturing out on a frigid morning and your feet will be truly toasty!
I've seen much fancier boot dryers and I see even Peet now makes a fancier version. And this product seems a bit pricy for something so simple that has no moving parts. But I'm not tempted to get anything else because this simple model is foolproof and "gits `er done."
Highly recommended for anyone who ever gets their boots or shoes wet while exploring the surface of our beautiful planet.

There are many reviews on these two boot dryers so I will make it short. The Peet Original Dryer and the Maxx Dry XL are both excellent products. The Peet is absolutely silent, extremely efficient, rock solid stable and inexpensive. The plastic is good quality and the dryer is made in the USA. The boot points up at a greater angle than the Maxx Dry which really dries out the toe box. I think that my boots are dryer with the Peet unit, but they are on the unit for about nine hours verses three hours on the Maxx Dry. The Maxx Dry is made in China and the plastic is heavier than the plastic Peet uses. The fan does make some noise, almost like a bathroom exhaust fan. I like the fact that the Maxx Dry also dries gloves at the same time or a second pair of shoes. In my experience, the Maxx Dry is not quite as stable as the Peet Dryer and is more likely to tip over. I am in my work boots for fourteen to sixteen hours some days and nothing is better than dry boots the next morning. I use both dryers every day and would not be without them. As an added bonus, I can now keep my teenagers $100.00 running shoes from smelling and ending up in the trash before they are worn out. These dryers are very useful products in the home and very few people know about them. The first dryer that I bought years ago on sale lasted only about a month so I was surprised by the 25 year warranty on the Peet Dryer. I recommend both units, as each one has its advantages and both are well worth the purchase price.Honest reviews on PEET Dryer M97-FSB Original 2-Shoe Electric Dryer, Black
I'll start by saying this dryer is almost solid plastic. It feels flimsy but does stay upright, even with shoes or boots on it. It does not have a switch, so the only way to turn it on or off is plug it in or unplug it. There is no fan, just gentle heat that rises through the tubes and into the shoes, so it is completely silent. The base does not get hot at all, so it does not seem to be much of a fire hazard. That said, it is very effective. My adolescent is often offending me and others with the odiferous nature of his feet and footwear. I bought him two pairs of sneakers and he alternates them daily, but I still occasionally have to bleach them to rid them of the odor. I bought this, attached it to a 24-hour timer like one you would use for lighting, and it is set to turn on in the evening. He puts his shoes on this thing and two hours later, the timer shuts it off. No more odor. Problem solved.
Even when I have washed the shoes, it only took about 6 hours to dry them completely from a sopping wet condition. It is not as fast as a clothes dryer for that purpose, but it is certainly effective and does not shrink the leather.

I love to wear my Timberland boots everyday... and they stink... but not anymore thanks to the PEET Shoe Dryer! I leave them drying all night every night and I do not have that problem anymore! This product does what it says efficiently and quietly.
Note: if you have very stinky shoes, make sure to open up a window or use it outside 'cause all that smell is gona be blown out of your shoes and into the room! that's how powerful this thing is!
CONS: I wish it had a power on/off switch so that I wouldn't have to unplug it from the wall everyday when I'm not using it.
