The hard "rocker sole" promises to support a smooth stride, and maybe provide some additional exercise. The shoe is beautifully made, as are all Mephisto shoes. But the design has two serious problems: [1] the "rocker" sole makes standing unstable (perhaps forcing you to continually rebalance is part of the promised exercise), and [2] running is impossible. Of course, it's not sold as a running shoe, but if you have to run even a few steps, it will feel like you have wooden blocks strapped to your feet. I threw mine away.

Outstanding shoes at a fantastic value. I have been doing my treadmill on it with lots of comfort.
The price at Amazon was unbeatable for a name brand of mephisto.
Will switch over to mephisto running shoes subsequently.
